LGBTQIA+ Social Group
Rainbow Friends social group is a safe, supported place for people who identify as LGBTQIA+ to meet new friends and participate in exciting activities, events and experiences.
We understand the unique challenges faced by individuals with a disability, who also identify as LGBTQIA+. Our staff and support workers are trained to provide inclusive and empowering support that promotes dignity and respect to people of all backgrounds. We believe that everyone deserves to be accepted for who they are, and we are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all our participants.
We offer a calendar of events that enable our LGBTQIA+ participants to enjoy activities such as movie nights, drag shows, social outings and marching in our annual Mardi Gras parade float. Our participants also get to enjoy some creative fun during the many weeks of costume planning for Mardi Gras!

Raising awareness of LGBTQIA+ people with disabilities
Blair Tilbrook, who marched down Oxford Street under the banner of an organisation he started called Everyday Ability, said the group had marched to raise awareness of discrimination confronting queer people who live with a disability.
Alongside him, wearing the disability pride flag on his shirt, was Andrew Nicholson, who lives with an intellectual disability.
“It’s important to me that we’re heard because people who have disabilities need a chance to express themselves too” he said via The Guardian.
